Kick Me

Remember those "Kick Me" signs from grade school?? You know, the ones that some poor unfortunate young kid had stuck on their back for half of the day while every other kid in school laughed at them until a kind soul finally removed it for them. Well, I think that the adult equivalent of those embarrassing grammar school signs is the "Pick Me" sign. Only this time, it is visible to everyone EXCEPT you and it causes people to ask you to volunteer for various jobs in the school that no one else wants to do. And I am absolutely convinced that I have one of these "Pick Me" signs stuck somewhere on my body because I have so far been asked to become the Room Parent Chair person (insert scary music here!!) and co-chair for our St. Patrick's Day Meal and Late Night Catechism show (insert more scary music here!!!). I know that there is more to come. I can feel people staring at me while they are planning what they can hit me up for next. They know about my inability to say "NO". If you ever wanted a perfectly good reason to home school, avoiding all of the "volunteering" business at private school is a REALLY good one. Trust me, I know. :)

I betcha they know you're good at this kind of stuff. You seem pretty organized to me. However, if you have too much to do, you MUST learn to say no. But I know what you mean...I find it hard to say no as well and I have to be really careful I don't get in over my head.

Thanks, Unashamed. :) It always amazes me that the two-letter word "NO" is so incredibly hard for me to say. I have been tryint to convince myself that I absolutely CANNOT do anything more than these two things because they are such big commitments. If I try to do any more, I fear that I will do nothing well.

So how long did it take you to learn how to say no?? :)

What makes you think I've learned??? *chuckle* I'm getting better at it though.

I seem to have a brand of that too, though, mine is more in the line of guilt for not stepping up. You know during those awkward silences that come after such statements as, "We need someone to volunteer to be the treasurer." NO ONE says a word and all try to avoid eye contact and meanwhile my guilt for not saying yes is building and building until a tentative, "If no one else wants or/will, I'll do it," squekas out. There's a look of sheer relief on the chair's face (and everyone else's: another bullet dodged!) as she pushed you a stack of information or jobs that MUST BE DONE.

Not that I have any real experience in this area. I'm just sayin'. ;-)

Ha Ha Courtney!! :) I've had that experience too! Ah, guilt is a friend that I have known for a LONG time.

I find that "No" is hard for me to say too. Good luck in not taking on any extra. It sounds like you've got a full plate already :)

Stop looking like you have nothing to do. Attach a phone to your ear, add high heels, look distracted and stressed.

This always works for me.

I'm going to have to try that, Dapoppins! :)
